Northern Ontario Travel Grant Question

Hi, I sent in my second Travel Grant and I'm hoping I did it right. I filled in my part and TWH filled in there part and I the other section for referral I left blank. It was my understanding that because I'm going to the same place and it's within the 12 months period that I didn't need to be referred again therefore that part didn't need to be filled out by any one. Does anyone know if I did this correctly? I sure hope so would hate to wait the 6 weeks only to get it back saying I did it wrong then have to wait another 6 weeks for the money.

Thanks,
Heidi

Hi Heidi - I'm sorry I don't the answer to your question.  When I sent in all my grants I had all sections filled out every time.  Dr Benedek (or her secretary) filled each one out for me in the referring doc section, a total of 8 grants in all so far.

When I went to get an additional grant paper they just put follow up in that space and said it did not need to be filled out cause it was not the first one. It all confuses me ..lol

 Thanks Cindy,
I'm with you about the confusion. We really can't expect the Government to actually explain things properly lol

Heidi - and all the other...
Don't forget to save all your receipts and all your appt dates. There is a huge medical expense to be taken on your tax return. Feel free to PM me if you need more info.....

 Thanks Ann,
I will keep that in mind. I don't think I can claim what the travel grant has covered can I?

Hi Heidi - I have accepted your friend request!  Yeah!

You are correct - you cannot claim for the things that are covered under the grant.  However, some of your expenses may have been more than the grant covers.  Other expenses may not have been covered at all.

Is it just a lump sum amount and you pay the difference?  If so, then you would add up all your expenses and deduct the grant. By all the expenses, I mean all your medical expenses - your entire family - for the year.

Your tax preparer or accountant should know all of this.  We have a business consulting firm and we do taxes so I am pretty up on the know.

Good Luck - any  more questions just ask!

 Thanks Ann,
I do my own taxes. I knew about medical expenses but wanted to clarify with the Travell Grant Part. Claim what medical we do have doesn't help this year on our taxes so I will save them for next year.
Thanks for accepting my friend request.

I just received back my refusn for my submisison to the Northern ONtario TRavel grant...I was alloted $1,240.00..

I only claimed my air fare which was $638.00.

they allowed me compensaition for (1) nights hotel accomodation as well.

so I would assume the additional amount may have been for things like gas etc..so therefore I would not be eligible to claim those on expenses at tax time..

I feel i have been very well compensated.

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
