Iron

Hello All,

So my Dr is a little useless and after my bloodwork came back I am deficient in Iron and Vitamin B12 She will be giving me b12 injections but as for the iron, she told me to just take a supliment. What do you all take? I am trying not to have to call her back and I know there are 2 types of Iron supliments.

I have been having iron problems since my 3 month checkup - even though I started supplementing with iron 2 months pre surgery.  Here's my experience:
: started with liquid iron (used for +/- 4 months).  I didn't help my levels much and really stained my teeth yellow.  I have since had to have them whitened.
: switched to heme iron - apparently the most readily absorbable form of iron and the least likely to cause constipation.  I use "Feramax 150" capsules (available at Shoppers behind the counter), and am now up to 3 capsules at bedtime (450mg) which I take with 500mg of Ester C.  My iron isn't dropping any more, but it has yet to rebound to OK levels. 

I know there are other iron supplements out there but you have to be careful about what other things you might take with them and what you eat at the same time.  Calcium and iron are not happy together (they bind to each other and end up as waste), so I find taking the iron as the last thing at night is optimal for me.
