I experienced painful breathing early out and realized my breathing was shallow because of it. I used the spirometer several times a day to make sure I did not continue that way and took my pain meds religiously until I could breathe easily without them.

Dont forget your deep breathing exercises. You can use a pillow to splint your belly while you do it.

Call your doctor.  Not to scare you but you could have a blood clot in your lung.  Is this something new or have you had it since surgery?  If it is new I would go to emerg.

It's a rare complication, but extremely serious if that's what it is. If the pain has come on suddenly, has gotten worse or if you're coughing out anything with even tiny amounts of blood, you need to go to an ER right away. BUT, if you have felt like this since surgery and it's not getting worse, then it is likely normal and you should just monitor it and try to do deep breathing exercises.

"For me" I hurt the same way every time I tried to breath in deep, but it was having the breathing tube during surgery. It expands your lungs more then normal. It went away in about  3 to 4 days.

hey brandy, congratulations on your wls journey and that you are home safe and sound :)
i just came across your blog and as a nurse, it is a little concerning that you would still have some pain while breathing. i think you should call your doctors office or perhaps go back to the hospital you had your surgery at and get looked at incase it is a clot in your lung, you can never be too sure. i dont want to scare you but if its not looked at it can become a very serious situation. keep us posted please!
Referral was sent in April of 2011 and my Surgery is scheduled for Oct 20 of 2011 :D

you should get it checked out, just to be sure. Please message back here when you know what's going on.
