Pancreatitus Anyone??

I have just got home after spending another 2 days in hospital with Pancreatitus.  I called my surgeon and he said it has nothing to do with having had a gastric bypass.  It just seems funny that is all related to the digestive system.  It is the most painful thing I have ever experienced, so I am looking for any advice on what to do to prevent this from happening again.

Was it associated with any stones? Often it's gallstones that cause inflamation of the pancreas related to weight loss. Often side effects we have are related to the fast weight loss versus surgery itself

Totally seconding this comment - often the removal of the gallbladder will prevent future episodes of pancreatitis, as it is usually caused by blockages from gallstones. Do you still have your gallbladder? If so, was it discussed as a cause and possibly removing it? If you've had it removed, how long ago? If it possible there are lingering stones (which is not all that rare). I'd go for a thorough ultrasound.

They did an ultrasound and said there were no stones.  But I have been reading I may need a CT scan that is bettter at detecting  gallstones.  Thanks for replying.
I am going to see my Dr. on Tuesday and ask for more tests.

I got home yesterday from having my gallbladder removed. I have suffered in the last 4 months gall bladder attacks as well as acute pancreatitis. This time they waited a few days to make sure there were no stones in my bile duct and removed my gall bladder. I already feel much better.

The pain is the worst I ever had.  I was so glad they were able to remove the gall bladder.  I hope things work out well for you.
