You probably won't use half of what you bring, but honestly if you feel better bringing more, do it, cause that's what I'm like, better to be safe than sorry!  Don't forget some chap stick!

Wishing you all the best, Erin!

What a great idea about the pillow for the ride home. Thanks for the suggestion since I will have a 4 hour ride home.

Chap stick was my number one item, but bring a few plastic baggies to put them in, or they will roll right off the night table (and believe me, you do not want to put anything near your mouth that has been on a hospital floor).

Comfy walking shoes, but I got a pair of hard sole slippers with Velcro for walking, because I knew I wouldn't be able to tie up laces post op.
A few magazines
Moisturizer
What ever your normally wash your face with

I brought a few pair of pj's, but only wore them the last two days. ( I was in for 6 days).  At St. Joes, they have tons of different sizes of gowns, but they were soo hot!  (don't know what your hospital will have).

If you have long hair, bring a few hair ties, I had mine up in a high ponytail the whole time.  I am a straightener addict, but didn't bring one and didn't use it.  All hospitals require a maintenance man to come in and check any plug in devices to ensure they are up to par.  This could take days, so it's probably not worth it.

They will provide measuring cups (med cups that are 30ccs) and will provide you with all fluids/intake.  They will provide you with your vitamins and supplements.  However, if you take medication at home (mood stabilizers, anti-depressants), I would bring them in.  I was lucky enough to have spoken to the pharmacist before surgery and he said to only bring in my birth control and puffers, and even though he said they would have the other meds on the floor, I did bring my own.  They were able to provide me with the rest of my medication, but I have seen it happen tons of times where the unit you end up on doesn't have your specific meds.

You probably will only use a 1/4 of what you bring.

Good luck!!

I have also heard a sleep mask and ear plugs are very helpful to block out noise and light to increase the chances of sleeping. I am also packing some baby wipes since you can't shower for a few days and their soap is so harsh. I get the unscented with aloe. I wish you all the best and cant wait to join you in 2 weeks exactly Oh yes and I am bringing my own pillow!!
