Medic Alert ID

It is a REALLY BAD IDEA to have a medic alert bracelet that days "no sugar". This could literally cost you your life if you are found in a hypoglycemic state and a paramedic or nurse thinks you are allergic to sugar - hopefully they would have the sense to give it to you anyway to save your life. Likewise with NSAIDs, in an emergency they might be needed to save your life (like immediately following a heart attack) and once you are lucid you can tell them that you can't have it as ongoing therapy without accommodations. Concern about NSAIDs and sugar are not worth losing your life in an emergency!!! This is the advice of the medical team at TWH and is also just plain good common sense. Do not ever get a bracelet that says not to give you sugar!

The ONLY thing your medic alert bracelet should say is "RNY Gastric Bypass" and if you think it is necessary, something about not administering a blind esophageal tube, but these would practically never be put in during an emergency anyway. The bracelet is intended to provide information needed in emergency cir****tances only!!!
