Well i go by the theory that my advice to people shouldn't cause them harm - but no way am i going to suggest something that could delay their surgery or cause their healing not to be as smooth as possible. ... you of course may say what you wish.
Oh and for the record, your comment about other people's comments being worthless, tells us much about you and your character. However, I'm sure you don't care to know the details on that so I'll save you.

I quit a little over 3 years ago when I started researching WLS... this past weekend was sooooo bad for cravings. I was sitting at the drive in surrounded by smokers and found it really tough not to light uo. I am preop and I know in my heart I cant risk it. so I ended up missing most of the Smurft cause I was walking it off.
HI Brandy,
I think if you stop now and are really just an occasional smoker I think you will be OK, (but i am not a doctor and I don't even play one of TV) I'll explain why they want you to stop smoking, so you can make an informed decision.
1. When having surgery obese people are already at a higher risk in regards to breathing problems, being a smoker makes that even worse. If you are getting out of breath very easily then it is harder to walk around and then if you aren't walking your recovery is harder and you have a higher risk of complications.
2. When you smoke the tissues in your body are robbed of oxygen, it makes them more delicate and fragile. Your intestines are already very fragile, so a smokers intestines are like fine tissue paper, It make surgery take longer and the chances of complications are higher. There is an urban legend of someone who was booked for an afternoon surgery who didn't get surgery because the first patient of the day was a smoker and it took the surgeon all day to get her intestines sewn together.
3. After surgery you are not feeling well and generally stressed. Your chances of transferring your food addiction to another vice is very very high. If you are struggling with having just given up smoking, well it is a recipe for disaster.
Every clinic and surgeon is different, Mine wanted you smoke free for a month, one of the plastic surgeons in town is the same. The 3 months or 6 months thing is the preference of the surgeon and the clinic. They each have their own protocols.
Good luck
