thinking

I don't know about your centre, but in Guelph I know there is a lady that let them know she wanted to put things on hold for a bit.  She had already had her first round of appointments and was scheduled for her follow up with the nut and social worker.  It was suggested to her that she put her next appointment on hold for 4 or 5 months I think and said that she could let them know at that point what her decision was.  I think you really need to make sure you do what is right for you.

Best of luck,

Laura

Good for you  Tricia, for really examining your thoughts on this and not just moving ahead blindly and possibly regretting your decision later. There's no denying that this surgery requires a huge committment on your part and you should be very sure about it. You say that your husband is against the surgery - I'm assuming that it's just because he's worried about you. My husband is worried too - he knows that it's always a risk when you have anaesthesia, but he definitely supports  me all the way as he knows that my health will keep worsening if I don't lose weight.

My thoughts are that you stay in the loop & continue to keep your appointments since you're still pretty early in the process. As others have said, you can change your mind about the surgery at any time down the road.  I think that it's great that you want to try again to lose weight on your own - as you say, you are practicing healthier living habits now than you did before & it will be great if you can succeed just by dieting and exercising. You won't know until you give it a try. If you don't you may always wonder if you should have tried one more time. You have to do what feels right for you - you know yourself better than anyone.  Whatever you decide, you know that you'll always be able to come here to find lots of support - that won't change a bit!   Good luck, Tricia!

No one can tell you what you should do...

But consider that while taking weight off is hard, keeping it off is the hardest part. People who successfully maintain a reduction of weight have to eat at a reduced caloric level for the long term - not just for a while - forever. That's the reason most people fail on their own. WLS helps you rapidly lose weight in the golden window, but it also reduces your ability to eat in volume over the long term and helps you keep to that permanently reduced caloric level in the long run. For me, that was the most important part in making my decision.
