OT - Bin Laden dead....Bring the troops home
Here, here!! My eldest is in the army and has served 2 tours in Afghanistan, the last one where he had such a very close call. At one point, both my sons were in the army, and I have a tattoo on my ankle in their honour and the honour of all our soldiers. I wear my yellow ribbon pin every day close to my heart. Perhaps this will open the door to real change and better relations in the middle east. Perhaps "world peace" really is attainable. I sure hope so.
There is nothng that I would like to see more than to have ALL of the troops safely home.
However, I fear that this turn of events will only cause the "powers that be" to keep the military in the area even longer.
I upsets me that so many people are place in peril, not because our national securty is threatened, but because of economic and power-positions being postured by our governments.
At the risk of this turning into a political rant that is inappropriate for a weight loss forum, let me say that I fully support all of the men and women who selflessly serve in our military...I proudly wear red every Friday...but I have a difficult time supporting the decision to keep them in the continued position of senseless danger.
As for the economic impact...I would gladly pay the gas prices if Canada pulled out of this foolish conflict.
It's my hope that the hatred that Osama Bin Laden cultivated died with him....however, I sadly doubt if that will be the case.

It's wonderful news if it's really true. I want so badly to believe it but I'm suspicious because of what happened to the body. News reports state that it's highly unusual for people of their culture to dispose of a body at sea - it's almost as though they are trying to avoid close scrutiny. I thought that the American troops would have retained the body after he was declared dead, just to prove that it was really Bin Laden. Supposedly they confirmed his identity through DNA samples, but something still doesn't seem right. I hope that I'm just being overly cynical and that it truly is that monstrous, evil man. I worry too that he'll just be replaced by some of his fanatical followers - I hope that I'm wrong. It would certainly be wonderful to see all of the troops brought home once and for all - no more killing!
