Totally OT, dumb question about false nails

Hi Joyce

I might suggest two things:

1. thin nails - take a couple of weeks and leave then naked - use cuticle oil a few times a day and keep them short

2. try shellac - its a nail polish that cures like gel....lasts 2 - 3 weeks - but is natural - esthetician will use a uv lamp for the base - polish and top coat - takes about 45 minutes for total process including cuticle removal. should only cost $10 more than a regular manicure....not as harmful to nails

also find my cuticles hardly grow with shellac and my nails grow beautifully

Thanks Barb, and everyone. I am going to leave them a bit before I decide what to do. I will try some of the ideas I read on here

Take care

I've worn fake nails for 20 years.. one of my BFF's is a nail tech.  I am pre-op and do not have any vitamin/mineral deficiencies.

I used to wear bio gel nails.. however in the last year or so.. I switched to acrylic.. because the gel nails lift and peel, and i was going in constantly to get them repaired !!! my friend says it's happening to everyone that he does lately.. he thinks the formula has been changed.

The acrylic is holding me for 3 weeks, no problem.

Hi there

Thanks for the info. I know it has nothing to do with my wls since I had it over 6 years ago LOL
My vitamin levels are all good
Very interesting about the acrylic. I may try that and see what happens

Thanks again
