did this happen to you?

Was just wondering...I weighed myself before leaving the hospital yesterday and was 5lbs heavier then when I went in...is that normal? did that happen to anyone else?

I am wondering if it's from all the IV they pumped in me I am not sure...and how soon did you start to loose weight?

Any input would help me right now...thanks!

Michelle.

Definitely the IV fluids. Give it a couple of days and you will be fine. I waited until 1 weeks post op and then only weigh weekly as it will drive you crazy.

It's absolutely from the fluids they pump into you while you are there.  It will come off almost immediately, don't fret :)

Try and stay off the scale for at least a week or so.  It's so hard not to but the water will hang around for abit while your healing.  For the first week I was a little disappointed in the weighloss then by 4 weeks post op I had lost 32 lbs and was thinking it's alittle too fast.  Take care.

I gained 11 lbs in the hospital.

Put the scale away from now. It is not what you should be worried about.

Your focus should be: water and protein.  Meeting your goals.  And a little bit of walking
as per your team's instructions.  Focus on that and don't worry about the scale. You need to
worry about recovering from surgery.  The weight will come off on its own in time.

Yup, I went home 12-14 pounds heavier from all of the fluids.

I didn't weigh myself, but my stomach was huge and full of gas, so I knew better than to jump on any scale. I weighed myself over a week later at my doctor's office and I was 17 pounds down (including my brief stint on optifast). It was actually kind of fun watching my stomach get smaller each day. IV and gas does add up for sure!

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

My stomach was huge when I came home.  I dared not to get on the scale.  But I assumed it was all the IV fluids and gas.

Still haven't weighed myself....

Hope you are doing well Michelle!
