Dr Shirkin

i have my appt for the medical internist.. just wondering if anyone has seen Dr Shirkin and what things should i expect when i see him?

i don't know Dr. Shirkin, but these things will likely happen.
blood pressure check
ECG
ask a lot of questions about your medical history
determine need for sleep test (to check for sleep apnea)

nothing to sweat about.

Hes a great man, and quite the talker :)   I saw him after I had the sleep study and other tests done.. and the results were  great so maybe thats why he was in such a good mood lol...  He said, "Id like to help you.. but youre not sick.. I wish i could say that to all my patients :)

I was referred to him by Dr. Hagen before my surgery in 2009, he is a great man. 

His office is very small and it is difficult to get his receptionist on the line to make an appointment, we played telephone tag for a couple of weeks.

Like many specialists his office runs behind, not as bad as MIS but it does run behind.

When I went he reviewed my past medical history with me.  I remember his encouragement that within 6 months of surgery my type 2 diabetes would be resolved.  When I was discharged from my Endocrinologist because my diabetes was resolved, Dr Shirkin was one of the first people I shared the news with.

At the appointment he booked an EKG, pulmonary function tests and a 2D echo his secretary told me that if there was an issue with the results he would call.  He did call, but only to tell me everything was fine.

I so love this man, very encouraging, and very supportive. . .lucky you!

i do seem to be playing phone tag alot with his office as well and it is hard to get the receptionist on the line.. i seem to listen to the answering machine  I am so glad to hear all the positive things about him, .. but i mean i have a really great surgeon as well.. such a nice friendly man..
