We went through this about 5 years ago with our first kitty, she was about 15 at the time. She just kept miaowing all the time, looked like she has lost some weight, didn't seem to be eating or drinking much but as we had another cat it was hard to tell. Took her to the vet, she was dehydrated and her kidneys were failing. They gave her some IV fluid and she was a bit better. We decided to put her down as she was suffering. I was with her at the end and it was one of the most difficult days of my life, I think I cried all day. Our other cat is having bowel issues and he is about 15 or so now, I don't want to put him down so we are doing what we can to have that day put off. I can't bear thinking about it. I just don't know if after him I could have another pet, it is just too hard when this stuff happens.

What you described is exactley what happened with our cat. We had two cats too so it was hard to tell if she was eating or drinking. But all of the same symptons showed when we went to the VETS...

I am so sorry for your loss, Kerry!  We have three, the oldest being almost 19.  Throughout my life I have always had cats and have lost too many and each one still has a special place in my heart.

Im so sad to hear of your loss. It is a heartbreaking experience to lose a beloved family member like that.... and yes a pet is a family member in my book.. I lost my 22 yr old BansheeCat last winter. I cried for days.

A huge hug to you and your family.

Kerry, I feel your pain and I am so sorry for your loss. We went through the same thing a couple of years ago with one of our cats. He was only 4 yrs old and so beautiful, the best cat ever. One day he had a hard time breathing and was walking slower than usual, a couple hours later he wouldn't get up so I rushed him to the 24 hour animal hospital where we learned he had congestive heart failure, was probably born with the condition and we never knew until he was too sick to do anything else for him. I started bawling as soon as the vet suggested putting him down. I was a basket case and my kids were there and had tears in their eyes but I came unglued. I did feel like I lost one of my kids, the vet actually left the room telling me he'd give me "a few moments". I went through a whole box of their kleenex while crying and hugging my cat and telling him I was so sorry. A year later we had to put our beloved Siberian Husky down due to old age and he was in such bad shape...again I was inconsolable....I know how hard it is and my thoughts are with you.

oh that's so sad.
We put our cat down last summer,
She was 15.
Got caught up in the pet food scandal. Had bad kidneys ever since.

Sad when you lose a pet, member of family.
hope your kids move on,
be strong, don't let those old bad habits creep back in.
