Sad day in my household - long post

Big hugs.  Recently my little Bichon died and it truly broke my heart.  If the hurting continues I strongly suggest that you go to the library and borrow a copy of the book called Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates by Gary Kurz.  This book helped me tremendously to deal with the grief.  Also, check for bereavement groups at your local animal shelters.  People there will really understand and help you to cope with your loss. I'm so sorry for you and your cat.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. It really has been a hard day. Our Vet gave us a book for the kids. When they are ready we will read it. Today we are sharing our tears and trying to make sure our other cat is okay. It really does leave a void in your heart.

Sorry for your loss. Fluffy was with us too and after 9 wonderful, unforgettable yrs we had to put her down. I feel your family's pain. My thoughts are with you and your family.

We lost two of our cats with in 4 months of each other the other year.  We had both for almost 13 years...we loved them so much.  I know what you are going through....its so hard to lose a loved one that is so much a part of the family.

Kerry, so sorry to hear about your loss.  As others have said, a pet is not 'just' a pet, but a family member.

I lost my cat of 18 years, Mikki, just before Xmas 2003.  She was my best friend and car companion her whole life, seeing me thru several relationships and apartments.  She died in my arms, wrapped in a towel.  Another cat, Lucy, that my husband had when we met died a few summers ago.  We now have 3 cats and a dog, and the dog isn't doing well.  Not looking forward to dealing with that with the kids - they were too young to remember Mikki, but they remembery Lucy.

Kerry, I am so sorry for your loss. How old was Peaches?

We have a 13 year old cat who is near the beginning stages of kidney failure. I have already dropped some hints to my kids that there will come a time when we will have to make that decision. It is not a day I look forward to because I love that cat too. We had her before we had kids, so she is like one of our own.

I don't know what I can say to make any of this go away. But try to think of the happy memories and do things that you guys enjoy. Yes there will be moments when it all comes back and hurts like hell, but time truly does heal.

Hugs.

She was only 7.... The Vet said that she probably was sick from birth but that they appear healthy until around her age when the symptons take over...

Thank you for the concern.
