Is NeoCitran safe to take for cough and cold after RNY surgery?

I am 7 months out...

i specifically asked my surgeon what to take if i get a cold and he told me to take that

Isn't there sugar in it?  I know they make a sugar-free version, not sure if we get it here in Canada though.

oooo geeze! good to know.. does this mean that maybe he doesn't know?? ok well, i will have to invesigate so i can be prepared if i get a cold....

I'm not sure Leanne - thought maybe you knew! lol  I know they recommend that diabetic people not take Neocitran, so I could have just ASSumed it was due to sugar, but it might have something to do with liver function or something.
I always just take Tylenol cold products, they've worked well for me.

Yes  you can get it here in Canada. I know I have bought it from shoppers.

When I was sick I took the Life brand cherry flavoured one which didn't contain sugar.   It worked beautiful along with the Tylenol Cold!

I would check the ingredients- ie sugar. My sister uses this all the time, I don't find neocitran to be of much use. I take extra Vit C 2000mg plus I make my own hot lemon- juice lemon/splenda + ho****er. If my cold is really bad- I slice a few inches of fresh ginger root thin-- don't peel. Pop in a pan with 2 cups of water- simmer for 20 min. Strain into a cup with the juice of a lemon- sweeten to taste. Clears the sinuses big time. crossing fingers and touching wood- no cold for me in a long time- I put it down to all the handwashing I do.

 i have bought the sugar free lemon neo-citran from shopper's drug mart....i think it tastes gross, but no sugar added is a good thing and i haven't had my surgery yet-just trying to change some bad habits now! i hope you enjoy the taste.
