That is my idea have his hand traced or if you have one of when he was little. put it on your shoulder as though he is patting you on the back for a job well done!

I like the monkey idea. oooh, a monkey holding a lightbulb with oct 29/2004 underneath it (thats if you wanted to be cute!)?

I'm getting "beauty" on my inside right wrist next month (I already have "unique" on my left). No real reason either.

I Plan On Getting A tattoo also....
Heres and Idea...

Tattoo a little boy wearing a monkey costume( cause hes the year of the monkey, and he is close to halloween) and you could have 10 piece of candy surrounding him ( to represent every ten pounds youve lost)

I love when people use their child's newborn footprint as a tattoo.  I REALLY want to do that, but with having 6 kids it will look like I was trampled on by a bunch of babies!  LOL!

You could put his footprint in black, outlined or background colour that represents his birthstone and then if you really want his name in it, you can have it printed under the footprint.

I had each f my kids names done in Kakana Japanese lettering and it is in the middle of my back and starts at my neck..that is followed by some beautiful purple flowers (purple being my favourite colour) and then the dragonfly which I find to be the most unique creation on the earth....

I hope the artist won't mind me providing the link..this was taken immediately after she was done

The 6 biggest tattoo regrets

By Joanna Douglas, Shine staff Email This Article IM This Article Print This Article YAHOO.Life.Dtk.ArticleTools.IM.setIntroMsg('Check out this article on Yahoo! Canada Lifestyle:'); Whether you're getting your first tattoo or your 20th, getting inked up is a serious commitment. You will have this artwork on your body forever, so you'll want to be as satisfied as humanly possible with the result. Before you go rushing into the tattoo parlor, please take a moment to contemplate these major tattoo mistakes. They're painful in more ways than one.

Tribute to your significant other

Many people even consider a name tattoo to be a jinx: passion may be fleeting, but that “Billy Bob” tattoo may serve as a permanent reminder of your failed relationship. Just ask Angelina, who decided to remove and cover up the ink on her arm. Surely there are other powerful ways to express your feelings... like carrying a vile of each other’s blood around your necks. Er, nevermind.

Misspelling your tattoo

It sounds obvious, but be sure both you and your tattoo artist have spell-checked any words that may be written in ink. We all are capable of spelling errors, but this would be one painful and expensive typo to fix!

Not knowing the true meaning of your tattoo

Tattoos in different languages have become increasingly popular over the years, but before you make it permanent, be sure you’ve triple-checked the characters with someone who can verify the language. Britney Spears is a great example of a celeb who didn’t do her homework. This neck tattoo was supposed to mean “new life” in Hebrew, but the characters were written out of order, which makes it meaningless. The kanji tattoo she received on her hip was intended to read “mysterious” but it translates as “strange.” As in, it’s strange that a person wouldn’t know what they’re getting tattooed on their body.

Trendy placement on the body

While a lower back tattoo (aka “tramp stamp”) may seem cool now, you may not want a little dragon poking out of your jeans later on in life.

Underestimating your pain threshold

Even the most hardcore tattoo fanatics often complain about areas that hurt more than others, so inquire beforehand. A little ink on your foot may seem out of the way and harmless, but with very little flesh in the area it can be a painful spot.

Getting tattoos with no personal significance

Tribal tattoos and arm bands are some of the most popular designs, but before getting one etched into your skin, think about if a piece of jewelry might suffice. Intricate designs are cool to look at, but you might consider something that holds greater meaning to you with a story behind it.

I don't have a tattoo, but my son does.  He has a small black bird on his right shoulder with the words "you were only waiting for this moment to be free" circiling it (i.e. The Beatles).  That was "our song" when he was little, we used to sing it together all the time.  Perhaps something special between you and your son like that?
