OT - Help! Where to buy orthopedic shoes in Ottawa?
Ok, so I have my new orthotics and the only things I can wear on my feet are my sneakers! I went to Orthomedix here in Ottawa and tried on about a dozen shoes and the ones that looked even remotely nice are either too narrow, or they don't have them in stock in my size. Can anyone else recommend a place to check for orthopedic shoes (ie. the ones where the insoles come out and they are deeper to allow room for the orthotics)?
Thanks,

Hi Karen
First off when you go looking don't ask for orthopedic shoes........they are when the SHOE a long with the orthotic is made for your foot. They are very old looking and very expensive( about $1500.00) You just want a deep bedded shoe so your orthotic fits in it so take your orthotics with you. (don't forget to take them out and take them home that happens so much) A good brand name for runners are Asics, & New Balance they have the depth your looking for but ask the sales person to help. Around here we have a Beckers so if you have that in Ottawa go check them out.
Hope this helps

Asics and New Balance are fine for sneakers, but I already have sneakers that my orthotics fit in (and they just happen to be New Balance). I want somewhat dressy casual shoes for work. At Orthomedix they told me that all the shoes they have there are considered orthopedic shoes - it's just that they are "stock" orthopedic shoes (ie. Naot or Mephisto, etc.) and not "custom" orthopedic shoes. My insurance won't cover custom, only stock (off the shelf). Also, in order for my insurance to cover the shoes it must say orthopedic on the receipt, and that is what they will put on the receipt at Orthomedix... too bad that don't have anything nice there that fits me. Bugger. :o(
