VSG
Yep, I had the VSG in Florida with Dr Gagner.
Would I do it again, yes, in a heart beat.
I had my op Nov 3r/08 and have lost 61 lbs so far, in just over 2 months.
Ohip is approving people as far as I know.
Good luck and welcome to our family board,
Nancy

Dawn I emailed you in 2007, I just recently found the email.
Ok, what is recovery time like?
I'm in to see my Dr. on Wed. I want to have all info with me when I go in and I'm looking at the VSG and the DS.
I'm 5.1, 235lbs, and BMI is 44.4. I have told a few people what I plan on doing and their response is, "you're not that big". Then I feel guilty for thinking I'm a candidate for this. They don't live in my body, nor go thru what I go thru.
You are all such a great support system! My husband is behind me on this. I have 4 boys under 12, I work full time. I don't do much with myself, do whatever the boys need to do. We travel a fair bit. I really want a better quality of life. I'm afraid of major complications, dying, etc from surgery. Is this normal?
Sorry to go on.
Thanks!

Sorry to say this but with a BMI of 44.4, you are that big!! I know it sucks to hear but you are def a candidate for this surgery. You might look great but you gotta get this thing under control for your health. I used to hear that too but now looking back at my pics I think what a bunch of liars lol. Your weight will kill you if you don't lose it right? Don't feel guilty about it, you pay your taxes so you are entiled to the surgery if you qualify. That's the way I see it!!
So back to the info. They told me at Barix to expect to stay around eleven days but if you live close by then that would be different. Barix also gives cheques out for travel so bonus for you.

He is in Miami about 5 min from Miami beach, so we stay at the Crown in Miami Beach, loved the place, would give it a 5+ star rating, lol.
It took about a week or so before I was healing well and walking and so forth, but remember, I was and am alot bigger than you, lol and I had alot of medical problems, cos I didn't know about WLS until about a year ago, no one ever told me about it.............................
Trust me, had I know about WLS years ago, I would have gone for it, when I was 20 I was in my 200's. That means for 30 yrs, I was fat, and obese, and super, super overly obese.
I started with 385 and am now 321 lbs in just over 2 months, lol.
The thing I loved most about Gagner, is that he is one of the world best specialist and he does the Sleeve & DS as well as a few others and he is the man who perfected the lap for most of the ops of today and the extra nice thing about it is, he is Canadian, lol.
He studied with Quebec's Christou, who is again one of the best out there.
Hugs,
Nancy

I think you would get like 600 bucks or something like that. Get in touch with Teresa Rouleau at Barix and she can give you all the details. I was really impressed with her and all the info she provided.
Hope I did not hurt your feelings, I meant it like don't let anyone convince you that you don't qualify for the surgery. My Mom tried that business on me telling me all the time that I was fine and not that big. You are beautiful so sorry if it came across rude, it was not my intention at all ( :

I'll contact Barix. Has anyone gone to Mexico to have it done?
That's because we have all learned to dress 40lbs thinner. If I took off the Spanx, and the all-black, I'd look a lot fatter! One look at my "before" undies pictures and you'd see what I mean! YIKES!!
I am in the process of trying for OHIP approval for the DS. I was told, by OHIP friday that they wanted to know why my dr. was recommending the DS when the sleeve was approved for people with BMI of 40-50.
Not sure if that helps you or not. If I were you, I'd make up my mind which one you want to apply for before you apply. If you ask for either, I'd bet you'll get approved for the sleeve without them considering you for the DS. Remember - you and your dr. are the experts here...not OHIP.
Just my two cents..

i love my spanx ~ all the best with your research ~
I am having my surgery on a Thursday and I've been told I'll be out of hospital mid-late Friday, stay in the hotel in/around Barix until Monday. Go for a quick checkup and I can fly home Monday late afternoon.
I am also doing my pre-op tests (PATS) the same week since I can't afford the time to do them 2 weeks in advance (this is my only gripe about Barix so far - I don't see why I can't get the tests done in Ontario and have my doc send results but whatever...) so I have my PATS done on Monday the 9th, surgery on the 12th and home on the 16th of March.
