Hi everyone,

Has anyone had OHIP approve a VSG? Is there anyone here that has had it done?

Just doing more research.

Yes, more and more these days and a VSG is a great choice for those in the lower BMI ranges. A few have succeeded in getting OOC approval for VSG but most I think have it done in Ontario.

high 47BMI/360lbs, now @ goal since 1.25 years post DS 23.5BMI/187lbs

Barix now offers the VSG covered by OHIP and done Lap. Dr.Gagner in Florida does the VSG aswell. I think this is a great surgery as I live with one plus my switch part too lol. BTW the wait time with MISGroup in Ontario is two plus years. Try OOC first!!

Don't have the exact number Ruth but the gastrectomy surgery is one that's been around for eons for folks with bleeding ulcers, stomach cancer, etc. Dr. Pop is more "renowned" for doing the RnY but has been doing laprascopic surgery for multiple years. I'm not sure how often they update these stats but this is what I have from his OH page (and the numbers seem far too low to be honest):

Bariatric Surgery:	9 Years Experience
Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery:	3 Years Experience

I'm pretty sure these are the same #'s that were posted when I was researching my surgery 2 1/2 years ago! LOL! Yes, you are right, they don't update their stats much!

Hi! I am scheduled to have VSG on March 12th at Barix - Dr. Poplawski is now doing them. There are 2-3 of us on here who have had (or having them) them done by Dr. Pop and there are a few folks who have had them done in Toronto at the MISGroup.
