Thread coming out of my incision after one month
Two of my incisions, one of which is still a bit infected have small pieces of thread coming out of them. Dr. Brackman told me it was normal and that I can feel free to pull them out if I would like.
I have two problems with that:
1. it hurts like an SOB - the rest of the incision is healed up
2. yucky!! pulling them out only brings out blood and other **unmentionable** things.
Any suggestions - besides just don't look at them?
I AM NOW ONE MONTH OUT TODAY AND DOWN 27.5 POUNDS! AND JUST OVER 2 DRESS SIZES. (WELL, PANTS SIZES, MY LEGS STILL RUB TOGETHER IN DRESSES )

Years ago I had a partial Thyroidectomy. 5 Years later I started to have black things showing under my skin. The doctor pulled them out, they were stitches. I even had minor surgery to have some taken out. The surgeon said she got them all. Not! I had a hole that remained for a year. There was a drainage that came out of it. One day the black stitch appeared and out it came and almost instantly the hole closed. I have a scar where the hole was and I am often asked in medical settings if I ever had a tracheotomy.
Best to get them out if you can. Possibly because you are a fresh preop there is more to them under the skin. Check with your GP.

My feeling (coming from 23 years of nursing), is only pull them out if they come easily - if they feel like it's pulling on the inside, or it's causing alot of pain, they're probably not detatched on the inside. Except for the skin stitches (which need to be removed) most stitches inside are disolvable - so when it's ready to come out, it will come easily.
Make sure that you are keeping your incision clean and put on some antibiotic ointment if you think they are infected.

I had a tummy tuck 3 weeks ago and he told me that I woud end up with some of the stitches possibly coming to the surface and they'd be black. He told me just to make sure I washed that area very well with soap and water 4 times a day and eventually they'd come out. If there were any threads just hanging, he said to pull and if they don't come out, just snip. I had one sticking out at each end of my incision and he had me snip them 2 weeks post op just below the knot and now my skin is healing even better.
A long time ago I had a breast reduction about a weeklater everything was nicelly healed execept one side I had so much pain it was driving me nuts .I can take pain well but this pain was really bad I called the Dr. 2x it was summer so he was at his cottage and thought i was annoying him so I just let it go , finnally about the fourth week I couldn`t take it anymore I was crying all the time and didn`t know what was going on but it seems like I could feel a stiche but of course at this point I didn`t want to make anything worst He finally agreed to see me .
Two mins in his office he found a stiche that hadn`t dissolved he took his tweezers and took it out right away the pain dissapeared!!!!
I was so realived that that was all but he made me suffer for weeks and made me feel so little for bothering him I told myself never again will a Dr. make me feel that way.
All of this said don`t wait go to the clinic anywhere to get it out don`t wait go and get it removed and hopefully the pain will disapear also..
GOOD LUCK, HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT FOR YOU, LISE

I had a small bowel obstruction in September and there was one spot in my incision that was taking forever to heal....it was like a round purple dot and it was ouchie! I noticed one day that there was a stitch poking through the skin...I grabbed my tweezers and pulled it out and within a day the incision completely healed and the pain was gone. It wasn't healing because my body wanted to reject that stitch first. I say pull it out even it if hurts, it's worth it.
