Topic: Bariatric cycling club... your thoughts
Hi Guys,
I am going to cross post this on a few boards. So, excuse the duplicates that you may come across. I am 18 months out from surgery and doing great. Over the past year I developed a real love for cycling. During this time, I began cycling with some fellow WLS patients and members of my support group. We had a wonderful summer and fall of biking rail trails and a variety of trails in our area.
This winter we decided to start an actual cycling club for bariatric patients. We have begun our planning and hope to be up and cycling when winter dies away and spring is in full bloom. I am here today to see if any of you participate in a cycling club or cycle with fellow WLS patients? We are looking for input and ideas for our group. We don’t want to invent the wheel again but would rather learn form others’ experiences. From our research, we have been unable to find any other club with a similar goal and approach.
I’ll definitely share how we are doing as we get going with this effort. Right now the three of us are very excited to see this become a reality. Cycling is such great exercise and easier to do than I ever imagined.
Give me your thoughts and ideas on this. Even if you haven’t cycled, what would entice you to cycle? What would you like a cycling club of bariatric patients to do? What would keep you from joining a group like this?
Thanks,
Tom from Akron

There is a link in my original post, above, to the study itself. It is a randomized study to see the effects of Gastric Bypass vs. Meds on type II Diabetes.
Topic: Toledo area get together anyone??
Hi, my name is Tammy. I had Lap RNY, by Dr. Lalor, (Bowling Green)on August 25, 2009. I have lost 70 lbs so far. I'm looking for anyone who wants to get together, and share their experiences, recipes, ideas, tips, etc. You can be pre-op, post-op, or just considering bariatric surgery. And it doesn't matter what type of surgery either, just looking for some friends for some support, and fun. A litlle bit bout me-I am 38, have 3 children(18 daughter, 17 daughter, and a 3 yr son), married, stay at home mom (right now, in process looking for a job).
Just send me email or reply to this post if u are interested. Have a great day everyone. Happy Losing!!

Topic: RE: We're getting a conference!!!
Hey everyone,
I just came to the Ohio forum to check it out since I just found out the conference this year is in Ohio. Last year I went to Rye Brook, NY and it was so informative, and I had so much fun. Although this is a little further for me to travel, I'm thinking about making arrangements to attend. Hope to meet some of you there.

Topic: RE: Northern Ohio Opinions Needed
Dr. Philip Schauer at the Cleveland Clinic performed my RNY. He has impeccable credentials. I was assigned to him because my history of blood clots and other co-morbidities put me at high risk. I don't think I could have been in better hands.
Everything went fine. I have lost 73 lbs since surgery on 9/21
I haven't paid any kind of fees for support groups as mentioned at other hospitals in a previous post.
Good luck on whatever doc your pick.

Topic: RE: Left over optifast
OMG, you poor thing. I guess I should quit whining and be thankful that I only have to drink these for 2 weeks. After the surgery I can have a different kind and I've found there is a Whey protein powder at walmart that tastes way better if you mix it with skim milk. I can also have strained soups and a lot more things than just these God forsaken optifast shakes lol. My husband also told me that after surgery he wasn't that hungry so i'm hoping that's the case for me cuz right now I'd eat a cardboard box it someone would let me lol. My hubby is at walmart right now buying me some flavored coffees to put in my shakes so we'll see if that helps, if not i'll try the syrup. I've just got to get these down somehow.
