Need Help for Co-Worker
I am desperately looking for some help for my co-worker. I had the surgery and have had great success. However, I am new to the Cincinnati and do not know a surgeon to recommend in the area. She has many co-morbidites and needs the surgery. She has the support of her primary care. Can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks!!
Dr Trace Curry!!!

I went to the WISH Center in Springboro. It's between Cincinatti and Dayton. They have a really good program, and it's set up for one-stop shopping. You have an intake with a nurse, nutritionist, exercise physiologist, money person, psychologist and the surgeon all on the same day. They all do a good job of teaching you how to maintain weight once you've reached goal, and they stress exercise (at whatever level you're capable of, even if that's very limited) and gradually adapting your diet so that you won't have any big shocks after surgery. They also do all your insurance stuff, which is handy. I didn't have to assemble anything or mail anything to my insurance.
If you're co-worker is high risk (because of BMI or co-morbidities), the WISH Center's Chicago surgeon travels to Ohio so that there are two surgeons for the procedure. My surgeons were Dr. Kira Schofield (who I saw in the WISH offices) and Dr. Rosen (who comes in from Chicago for a week every month to assist with high risk cases). I had really good nursing care at Middletown Regional Hospital, where my surgery took place. The anesthesiologist there is a beautiful genius. He did something called a rib block, and I had pretty much no pain when I woke up. I had minimal pain in the hospital (mostly, my pain was very mild and came from secondary things like my IV getting flushed -- that stings! --, my staples itching a little bit and having my drain removed). I was stiff, but not in pain. I also had PCA (morphine) the first 24 hours, and it helped me sleep.
So I'd try the WISH Center. They're very convenient to Cincinatti, and the care is great.
It really depends on what insurance your friend has. Some surgeons (and hospitals) may or may not be in your friend's insurance network. An out of network situation can be a nightmare and cost a lot of money. So before you recommend a surgeon, have your friend call and make sure the surgery is covered and then, if so, who is in her network.

Hi Sara,
I would have to say UC Center for Surgical Weight Loss and Dr. Selwyn. He is great! They have a very comprehensive program. Dr Selwyn is very well trained and will work with High Risk Patients. He's also a great Doc all around. His staff is top notch and always there post op when you need them (pre op too). I am almost 13 mos post op from Lap RNY and am doing great. Dr Selwyn is such a nice Dr, but at the same time he is very honest and doesnt sugar coat anything.
I don't personally know Dr. Curry, but I have heard nothing but good things from his patients, so I dont think you could go wrong with him either. They each have nothing but good things to say about the other.
Hope this helps

I have to suggest Dr. Curry for all the reasons stated above. He aslo has a terrific staff. Tracy Burch is the person to talk to for all insurance questions and she knows her stuff to get things through. You can look at Dr. Curry's patient forum or look at his current web site www. newyourealyou.com. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any specicif questions.
