I just found that my insurance (Beech Street) wants a medical record with 6 mo of doctor supervised diet.... I have almost everything else done, can I appeal this? If I have to do it, I wonder if I will have to redo my cardiac clearance in 6 months... Any comments would be great. thanks

Pamela, Get started on this asap. My insurance would not give in. I had letters and everything. saying I was on a 12 month diet, They said I had to have the weigh in every month. What I did was went to my doctor for 6 months the same time every month. I told him I wanted the surgery he was very supported. He put my on a diet and excercise program, I went every month for a weigh in and talked about my diet and excercise. and make sure you have a weigh in for every month. I had all my test done., I did not have to take anything over. Except I flunked my hospital pre admissions test. My ekg was bad and I had to get another aclearance. But I have heart problems so that is why.. But after I had everything done., The insurance company appoved right away. Good Luck Barb

I had office notes from 9/18/04 where my doc said that I asked for Xenical but that she wasn't comfortable with that and she stated that she referred me to Weigh****chers. The next visit 10/18/05 showed I'd lost 13 lbs and was doing WW online. She also noted that she had to remove a scab from my heel due to my exercise program. Then my doc left the practice leaving me with no doc. I received a denial letter with only that info. Next: I found an e-mail where I had cancelled my WW online and it was 6 months exactly. I contacted WW and they provided me with all of my payment history and all of my weigh ins. I submitted this and was approved. Best wishes! Jacquelyn

My insurance (Anthem) wanted some similar information..... It had been many years since I had attempted weight loss using a doctor supervised method, (i used diet pills {GASP}). Anyway, my doctor included this information in his recommendation letter, and it was accepted, even though it was over 10 years since I had used them... I guess it is up to the insurance company what they will accept, if you have some supervised dieting that is a bit older, they may or may not accept it, in the mean time, I would start a new period of supervised weight loss, it couldn't hurt. kevin
