Whatever Floats your boat!
Hi Everyone!
I usually don't post much but the topic from some of our "guests" from outside Ohio has gotten to be really boring!
I say whatever works for you in your journey to lose weight all have merit. I guess it depends on what type you personally choose. I have the RNY and am extremely happy that I had it done. If I were a few years younger I may have decided on the lap band.
My thoughts are: 1. RNY was at one point a "new" procedure and had risks involved. The more I studied it the more comfortable I personally I am with it. It is a life long committment and used properly will help me maintain my weight loss.
2. I think that personal attacks made on this forum should be stopped. If you ask a question and don't like the answer that just drop it. I haven't met nor will I probably ever meet Dr. Curry but I do find the information that he shares on this board very informative and I have the utmost respect for him.
I did read that less than 50 surgeons perform the DS.....maybe...who knows....that it may replace RNY.....I personally do not think that I would be comfortable with that procedure. It is not an attack on those that do. We all have our reasons for choosing what we think will work best for ourselves. I do not think that I have to validate why I chose RNY when someone else chose to do the lapband procedure. But I do not force my opinions about my procedure onto others and make claims that it will cure anything other than lose weight. I know that in our support group meetings we were told that if you have type II diabetes you will NOT be taking any oral meds after the procedure. No one said that you would be cured but if I have my facts straight, beause of the anatomy you can no longer be regulated with oral meds. Please if you are a professional correct me if I am wrong.
I hope that all the slamming that has been going on will stop. There is a lot of love and support on the Ohio board.
My mom always used to say....if you can't say something nice...then don't say anything at all!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Sue,
Thank you for saying, what I have been thinking. Were all on a journey, doesn't matter how we get to that pot of goal (LIFE), it's who we bring along for the friendship, and support that matters.
Let's start Thanking someone, who's been by our side, thru this journey, and thanking someone for giving us our lives back and the lives back of our friends on the Obesity Help Board.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving to all

My PCP told me that after RNY I will no longer be diabetic. He also believes in this surgery so much that he told me to take out a second mortgage on my house to have the procedure done in hopes to save my life. I believe what he tells me.
My insurance company has an entire section regarding all of the WLS they support and the ones they don't support. DS isn't supported. That doesn't mean it isn't a good thing, it just means that they aren't so sure about it as of this time.
I worked for 8 doctors and deal with a lot of physicians. They are just as human as the next person and may even use the language of "common people". This is no reason to flame a physician. There was no personal connotation made towards this person. Trust me your very own PCP or OB/GYN or Psych makes comments about you that would make you wish they only referred to a decision as nuts.
Sadly, for people trying to defend one person because a procedure they talked about was described as nuts....one person judged an entire state of people based on the results of a presidential election. That was very professional and necessary. Thanks.
The reality of this whole topic is WLS. Regardless of how any one of us goes about it, it is truly about regaining health. It is about success in losing weight that traps us in our own personal hell. Why can't we look at weight loss as a team instead of an us against them? The last time I checked everyone was entitled to their very own opinion. Also there was a certain issue regarding freedom of speech. I'm not sticking up for any single person or physician, I'm merely stating that we are all human and need to use a little common sense when dealing with others.
To all, best wishes on this weight loss journey no matter what road you take to arrive at the common goal.

1--NOT the results...the fact there there were three hour long LINES to stand in; and
2--It was a joke. I'm sorry I forgot to include the emoticons, so people who miss jokes would "get" that it was a joke. (I foolishly thought it was SO obvious, and I can't edit that post, but if it helps...
