OSU's Program--Important Question!!
I've just started the nutrition classes and have my second meeting Tuesday. I'm in Portsmouth asn seeing a dietician down here. I feel like a failure! I'm not doing a good job of eating protein with every meal. I didn't realize how poor my nutrition was. If I do such a poor job when I turn in the papers (of what I've been eating) will they refuse me? I know I'll improve, but this week has been horrible!! Please answer if you've been through the OSU program.
Thanks!!
Jan....
I went through the program at OSU. It is just they want to make sure that after the surgery you know what you should be eating. There were some days that I did not get enough protein in.. and I would just drink a protein shake or add unjury protein sprinkled in my cottage cheese.
There are ways of getting the protein in we need other than just regular food. Just try to do better the next week and make sure she sees the improvement. I don't think they will hold you back.. they will only give you suggestions on how to increase your protein.
Good Luck and Best Wishes....

Jan, I went throug the program at OSU as well. I agree with everything Julie said. Hi Julie. The idea with the nutrition classes is to see continous improvemnt as the classes go on. If you were in perfect complaince the first week you probably would not need the program. Do as good as you can and pay attention to your nut and you will improve as you continue. It is really worth all the hard work of doing the classes. Good luck. Julie
The main thing is to change our old (bad) eating patterns and get into healthier ones. As long as you maintain or lose 1lb that's ok with them. I got upset when I didn't lose every week but they understand they're other factors in your life that stop you from losing. At almost 400lbs I thought I knew how to eat but boy did I learn alot from the classes. Now that I'm 5 wks out I apply everthing I've learned.

I have to agree.... I didn't go through the OSU program, but learning how and what to eat is a very useful tool after your surgery, whatever type you have.
I was very lax about learning anything about eating before my surgery, and I most definately suffered for it post op, where I was "Force Fed" into the learning experience. Most important to me, was seperating drinking from eating. I can drink much more now with any meal, but immediately postop, as soon as i drank more than a sip, I was done eating. I also found that foods that had their own moisture were much easier to eat... (dark meat chicken, instead of breast meat chicken for example)..
Good Luck, and Good Eating!

I just learned that there is a tasteless whey protein out there that you can add to your beverages, food, whatever. I know one brand is AnyWhey and another is Beneprotein or something like that.
I'm also struggling to get in enough protein (my dr wants 100g a day), so I'm going to give this a go.
Also, check out bariatriceating.com. They sell a pack of sample sizes so you can try many brands and flavors before you spend a fortune.
