Congrats Joe, It will be the most amazing time of your life on the losing side. You will be suprised at the strength that pouch gives you to make the right choices for yourself.. Just follow your surgeons orders and you are going to have great results. Just be prepared for a few weeks of adjusting to the new foods and dealing with that head hunger and some folks go through a slight depression ( mine was severe, I had such a love relationship with food) It was my comfort, my friend when I was lonely, I turned to it for social comfort. And I suddenly found myself wondering if I could be without that friend forever. And I became convinced I wanted a reversal. But these wonderful ladies and gentlemen assured me that these feelings would pass. And they did and know -102 pounds down I am feeling like a 20 year old again. I feel like I have begun living again and now have NO REGRETS. Just keep reminding yourself of the new and better life that is out there waiting for you... This WLS is not the easy way it.. It just gives you a tool to make better choices for yourself with some built in safegaurds to protect you from yourself. Joe, it was the very best thing I have ever done for ME. I am so happy that you have your approval and keep is imformed how your preop weeks are going by. Dont do what I did. I went through the Last Supper syndrome and ballooned up to 310 pounds. I wanted to eat everything that I wasnt going to be able to eat again. Pretty crazy but I even asked the resturant to be able to take the knife and fork I used on my last fat, carb, calorie ridden meal. I remember eating and thinking I am not hungry anymore but I am going to eat every bite. And my good concious took over and I ate normal small portions. I knew right then and there that I was going to be okay. And so far so good,I havent been hungry yet, thirsty all the time, but losing well. I do aerobic swimming and weight training 2 times a day and so far no loose skin. Better than anything is my RH is doing so much better. The pain in my hips and joint happens very rarely, my latest sleep study took me off my cpap, I am off the high blood pressure meds, the 160 mgs of lasix I was on a day, my inhalers, my sleeping pill, The Naproxen, Vioox and the Trazodone. The Dr is keeping me on my lipitor because high triglycerides just happen to run in my family. Joe, I am a brand new woman. Suddenly the woman who had to ride a scooter through walmart walks 5 miles on the treadmill at the hotel every day, the woman whose joints were so painful to get in and out of the bathtub can lift 50 pounds on the workout machine. And best of all I can walk without turning blue in the face and needing to stop and use my inhaler.. And I was only 44. I have restrictive cardiomyopmyopathy and Cardiomegally ( a big floppy heart) I used to have to pop Nitro for Angina once a day. Now I have no chest pains.. It is a complete miracle for me. I was up to 310 on the day of surgery, and now weigh in at 207 and feel awesome. Everyday is a new adventure to see what I can do now. Can I fit into those 18 shorts, Where are my hooties going? I can pick my grandson up and swing him around, I can tie my shoes and not feel like passing out, I can weed my garden by squating down, and best of all I am not the last one eating my 5th plate at the chinese buffet resturant. I eat like a normal thin person, savoring each bite.. Just knowing after 5 or 6 bites I am satisfield. I dont crave sweets and things that arent good for me. I have been given this miracle chance by GOd to be given this tool to lose weight and I will do nothing to jeopardize its sucess. Joe I wish you all the luck in the world. I hope you fly through this surgery with no complications and are up running the hallways in those sexy hospital gowns. Just know we are pulling for you, and hope to have you on the losing side soon. Nothing feels better than feeling your clothes get loose and having your shorts about slide down over your hips as you are walking.. Clothes that just fit you last week. Use your sucess to talk to people about the surgery and try to convince them that their misconception that this is the easy way is wrong. WE have a huge responsibilty for its sucess or failure. As soon as you can get out there and exercize , I really feel thats how I have dropped so many pounds so quickly. It amazes me everytim e when I can do 20-25 mins on the treadmill and couldnt walk from the handicapped spot at Walmart 3 months ago. Swimming is so good for all the muscles in the body and I have self taught myself from library books. All you need is a noodle and yourself and you will begin to firm up quickly. You are going to just fine Joe and if you need us we are here, Laura from SouthEast Ohio

Thanks for the response Laura. I've had my own trouble with last supper syndrome, gaining 6 pounds in the past 3 months. As of today I'm on a low-carb diet for the next 16 days to try to drop what I can before the 29th. I have trouble with walking and I've looked longingly at those electric carts at Walmart and Kroger. I dread any kind of shopping because of the pain from walking but I'm embarassed to use those scooter-carts. I know for past experience that when I'm down around 350 I can walk without pain so I'm looking forward to that. This is a miserable existance. This is a chance of a lifetime for me.
