Hi Cindy, I can understand your nervousness, I'm experiencing many of the same feelings. Did you talk to your Dr's office about whether or not someone can stay in the room with you overnight? They would be the ones to tell you if you will go to ICU or not too. Prior to surgery, they normally get you in a gown, sometimes take blood again for a few final tests, maybe give you something to calm you down. You may want to call your Dr's office and let them know about all of your questions, I'm betting they will be able to give you some great feedback. Best of luck with your surgery! Denise

Cindy, I can only help you out a bit.....when you get there they will have you change into a hospital gown. The anethesoligist (sp?) will talk with you.....the nurses will get your BP and temp...maybe weight too. There really isn't any prep unless of course you are very hairy which I assume you aren't! They will have your family come in with you.....about 15 minutes before surgery they will get your IV started....then maybe some happy drugs. I don't remember even being wheeled into surgery! I had to have a shot of heprin prior to surgery too.....oh and probably a bag of antibiodics from the IV......things kind of come back but it all went so quickly and everyone was so nice that the waiting wasn't so bad. My surgeon also came and talked to my husband and I before surgery....... Good luck with your surgery! Sue

yeah, i remember how nervous (and incredibly scared) i was. as far as what to bring, you might want to bring a big, comfy robe for when they make you get up and roam the halls, so that you're not hanging out of your gown and some comfy slip-on slippers. the one thing that i could not have made it without was chapstick. my lips were so dry that they were bleeding. i hope all goes well for you - i will keep you in my thoughts. take care, kym
