Does anyone know how long one must wait to have a full body medical massage following OPEN RNY Surgery? I currently get one every week & am wondering what to expect after surgery.... Thanks & Hugs, Karen

Oh lucky you!! I would LOVE to have a massage every week! I would imagine you would just really need to wait until it wouldn't be painful for you to lay flat and have your body manipulated. Val

Yes, I am lucky.... my insurance covers it due to medical necessity! They may decide to someday stop, but until they do, I'm taking full advantage. Thanks for your post! Karen

Actually a lymph massage would be very good for you after surgery. My therapist does a lot of post-op plastic surgery patients. The lymph drainage massage helps stimulate the movement of fluid in your body so it reduces swelling. As soon as my staples came out my therapist back home did some scar massage to prevent adhesions (I think). I've had lymph massage on my legs for years because of lymphedema, but then all that comfort is ended when they put these layers of compression wraps on...but today I'm going to get my very first full body "pamper me" massage. Lookin' forward to it! Sarah And I did just get a new bath pillow....I think I need to buy some bubble bath though.

Thanks, Sarah! I really hope you enjoyed your first "pamper-me" massage! I've had 2 massages in the past that weren't considered "medical massage"... one was with hot rocks and I absolutely loved it! In fact, I got such benefit from the hot rock massage therapy, that I'm thinking it might be good to get one just prior to going into the hospital to have my surgery.... it's got to help!!!!! Right!?!? (Can't hurt, anyway.) Thanks for your ideas... I will talk to my massage therapist about them. Enjoy! Karen

Karen, My friend Gayle said that she started having the massages as soon as she could lie on her stomach comfortably....she had her surgery Nov. 18 and this was Jan. She did say that she went in for a partial one in Dec. where she laid on her back and then sat up so they could work on her back. Liz
