help me out with a little poll ..thanks
Hi,
I had my surgeon chosen and had gone to my first appt and they had sent the info in and my insurance denied it. They only submit the info once and do not help with the follow-up. While I was going through the appeals process, I heard some very bad things about the surgeon and the practice I had chosen, so I asked around, researched and chose a very well respected group. I am soo glad I did.
It's all about research. When I chose the first surgeon, I just went off of the approved surgeons list from my insurance company. I did some research, but not really enough. I also got some strange vibes when I met with him for the consult. So research and trust your instincts. That surgeon is no longer doing weight loss surgery. HMMMMM
My advice to those researching weight loss surgery, research the docs thoroughly. If you go for the consult and dont feel comfortable with them, or they dont answer your questions completly, and/or you feel rushed, then move on.

ANNA BANANA!!! OMG is it really you?? I have missed you soooo much!!
I am glad you are doing so good.
Hit me with an email sometime!
As for the poll question, research is definately the key. I work at OSU, have their insurance, so it was decided for me.
I did research it anyways, and I got nothing but shining reports for my surgeon. He was wonderful, and I believe in the ol gut feeling. I felt comfortable with Dr. Melvin, he answered my questions, made me feel very comfortable. You gotta trust the person behind the blade...and I did. As a matter of fact, Earl liked him so much he requested he do his surgery.
So, that's my 2 cents worth!

I researched 5 surgeons (over a 5 year time line), had consults with 3 and chose Dr. Curry. Any of the surgeons would have been an excellent choice, but 3 did the open RNY procedure exclusively & I was holding out for Lap RNY. One of the surgeons I interviewed actually told me he did not do Lap RNY on "older" patients.... I have no idea why he uses that guideline.

I did all the initial visit and workup with one group and then thought that my insurance was no longer going to cover them, so started looking into different docs. I ended up going to an information session and talking to the staff of another surgeon and decided that I preferred him to the original surgeon and have had no regrets at all. Things went great and I feel they are meeting my needs very well. I didn't really have too much of an issue with the first group, but I knew it would cost more. My insurance approved the change over the phone with no additional paperwork. Chris
I first look up who was on our insurance. There were 5 total.
I took their names to my PCP and ask him what he thought. He didn't know about 2 of them, one he said NO do not go there, one was still new to doing WLS and he didn't know to much about him. The last was who he would recemend.
Well me being me and not taking his word I wanted to see what was so bad about the doc he was so strong against. Well to make a long story short I did my REASEARCH and sure enough there were VERY GOOD reasons for me not to chose him.
I chose the group that he recomened and I'm VERY HAPPY. Their staff was/is super and I could call anytime to ask the dumbest questions and was never made to feel that I was dumb in doing so.
Like the others have said who ever YOU chose please REASEARCH and make sure you are comfortable with the doctor.
