Hi. My name is Susan. I am new to this group, 3 years out from RNY. After 1.5 yrs. I stopped losing at 205 down from 340. I still had 55 more lbs. to go to reach my dr.'s goal, but I stayed 205-210 for 6 months. In the last year I gained over 30lbs. I went to my dr. because I was worried my stoma had stretched and he said it probably was and that it was not unexpected after 3 years. I also met with the dietician and realized how far I had gotten away from the principles of the pouch (drinking with meals, grazing, eating sugar, etc.) Well, I have gone back to basics for 3 weeks now and have lost 9 lbs.! However, can eat a lot so I have been measuring my meals to compensate. I always get hungry after 2 hours but can't eat until the next meal. I take in about 100g protein/day, have cut way down on refined carbs and have cut out simple carbs, am drinking a lot of water and exercise 3-4 times per week. I am really worried because I can eat so much if I let myself and get hungry so fast. I am angry that my dr. didn't even want to look in there to be sure. I hear about people who are getting revisions, etc., so I'm thinking maybe it's NOT normal and he just "brushed me off". Is it normal to be able to eat a lot, like a whole Wendy's single with cheese, before becoming full? Is it normal to be able to eat a huge salad, like 3 cups lettuce, 1 oz. cheese, and a hard boiled egg with a slice of bread along with it before feeling full? Is it normal to be hungry again 2 hours after that? Does anyone with over 2 yrs. out who knows for a fact their stoma is either intact or stretched have any insights/comparisons for me? I am succeeding for now with the weight loss (major white-knuckling) and am confident I can get back down to 205, but the fact that I can eat so much and get hungry so soon really worries me. I think about food all the time! Can anyone tell me what's going on?! I'm very worried. I paid for my own surgery and now I feel like I messed it up somehow.

Hi Susan I am still pre op but if that were me I think I would either talk to your surgeon about maybe checking to see what is the size of your stomach/pouch, checking on the size of the stoma and also I would want to find out how much was bypassed. Maybe you need a revision? I honestly think that you are trying very hard right now but it may not be much help if your stomach is too stretched out and the stoma is too big...you don't want to be so hungry all the time that it is making you sick..all because maybe your stomach is too big now..I think I would do that with your original surgeon and if he/she wouldn't want to do that then I would look elsewhere for help. Just my personal opinion but I know if I ever run into problems like that I will do what I can to get help or a possible revision, why just deal with it when you can do something about it? Good luck!! ~Tema
