OSU Hospital
Can anyone tell me if OSU Hospital has private or semi private rooms for you??
Just curious.. A friend of mine who had the surgery a few years back suggested I have someone stay with me to help me out while I am in the hospital, has anyone else done that??
The closer I get to my surgery the more questions I am coming up with.
When I had the surgery I ended up in a four person ward but when I had to go back (same night I went home) I got a private room. I did not have anyone with me but got along just fine with the nursing staff. They kept reminding me where the pain med pump button was located cause I was not using it as much as they expected. The best time is about five minutes before you feel you need to use the bathroom. This helps with getting out of bed and back in to it. Good luck, Darla
Loraine,
Like Richard said, they have Bariatric Suites there and they are sweet...no pun intended.
Earl got one of those, I got a semi private until a private came open. They didn't have those rooms when I was there. He lucked out. And, go figure, I am the one who works there! They were swamped when I had my surgery. I don't think I even had a room to go to until after 6pm that day!! You just never know.
Also, piece of advice, when you go in the morning of surgery to registration, request the Bariatric Suite...at the very least tell them you want a private room, so that they have that ahead of time.
Here's the thing...those are first come first serve. So are private rooms. So, even in some of the best cir****tances you could end up in a semi-private because that is the only bed available at the time. They try very hard to accomodate everyone, but sometimes they just run out. In that case, let them know you would like a private as soon as it becomes available, and they will move you as soon as they can.
If you are in a private room, you can usually have one member stay with you. If you are in a semi-private you can not.
Hope this helps. It's always good to be prepared.

Hi Loraine,
My friend Paula just had surgery at OSU last tuesday, she was in a private room/suite..not sure which one but it was nice and big. She didn't have anyone staying with her, but she said the staff was wonderful and everytime she pushed her button when she needed something, someone would come within 1 minute or less! I do know like Valerie and Richard said that you have to request this type of room when you register the morning of your surgery!!
Good luck with your surgery!!
