Bowl Noise

Hi I am just home from hospital. I have LOUD bowl noise... rumbling from one side of belly to back. Normal? It's funny, it is so loud that the dog barks. Is it the gas? Will it stop?

Kathleen, I am 4 weeks out today, and for the first week and a half it was so loud that it would wake me up. I have a little bowel noise every once in a while now, but not nearly as bad. For me it has cleared up. I don't know what is the normal length of time though. Congratulations on getting your surgery! Take care and good luck! Mary

Kathleen! That's cute...yep totally normal. As a matter of fact once in a while mine will gurgle loudly and I am almost 2 years out! That's pretty funny when I am talking to a patient and all of a sudden...gurgle slosh burbble gurble glub.... funny, sounds like I am starving to death and I am not hungry at all...gives me the giggles! It's probably gas, and just normal bowel parastalsis (the movement of your bowels pushing stool, gas, etc. through). Bowel sounds are good. It's when they quit making noise that we get worried. It will get better. It only does it occasionally now. They are just getting the plumbing back in order right now. Take care, Val
