I'm popping the question
hi all, i'm 10 months out and i'm wondering about pop. has anyone been told not to still drink it? or has anyone tried it and did good, bad or indifferent? i'm kinda of craving it (the diet coke and diet sprite) and would like to try it and want to know what others are thinking. thanks in advance. jennifer
Every dr. is different but my dr., Dr. Fallang says we can have it in moderation. Personally, I was a major Mt. Dew and Coke addict pre-op and now if we go out to dinner if I get a pop w/ dinner I may drink 4-5 drinks of it and either the rest goes to waste or my husband or daughter drink it. I was a 2-3 refill person before. It just doesn't taste the same and doesn't appeal to me anymore. Even Dew in a bottle doesn't make me want it. I'll take a drink of my husbands, really a sip and be done. The carbonation makes me burp a little but doesn't "bother" me. I was just telling my husband yesterday I cannot believe I don't crave pop or drink it on a regular basis. Its crazy...that and drinking w/ meals I thought would be my biggest challenges, but neither are. Getting food in is my challenge as I'm never hungry and when I do eat, a couple bites and I'm nauseaus. I'm down 46 lbs in 11 weeks so I'm not complaining.
good luck and remember every surgeon is different. My sister had hers in July of 03 and her doc is ok w/ pop also.

The nutritionist at my surgeon's office says that if I have good burping (which, oh man, I do) pop is ok but not a lot. So I have some once in a while and get some good burping going but it does taste good. I was a major diet pepsi fanatic before surgery. I do try to stay with caffiene free pop now though.
