Dr. Mcguire
Hi Tammy,
I'm actually having surgery with Dr. Maguire's NLS Group on Tuesday. Dr. Anderson (Gary) will be my surgeon, but Dr. Maguire will be assisting... there are always 2 surgeons doing the surgery from what I was told by the office. I love them. They have been so helpful and supportive from the very beginning and I am so confident in their abilities. They are really about total support, not just about the surgery. I suggest you call the office and get an appt for one of the Information Sessions, and also check out their website... newlifesurgery.org They have support groups for both the RNY and DS patients each month and Dr. Maguire starts off the meetings. Dr. Maguire has been doing this surgery for 30 years or so and knows his bones so to speak. He is one of the few doctors in the country who do the DS.
There are a lot of quality surgeons in S.W. OH. Do your research thouroughly. you'll know you've found the one when you keep swinging back to him/her. If you choose not to go with NLS, take a look at the Deaconess Center in Cinci. Dr. Curry is an amazing doc. I've heard so many good things about him and he regularly posts to the board to answer questions and give support.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I live in Centerville. I'll be out of touch this week, but should be home over the weekend. Please let me know if I can do anything!

Doctors Maguire, Hadley-Anderson , and Anderson are THE BEST!!!!!
I had Dr.Hadley before she married Dr.Anderson, Dr.Maguire was there also. If you chose to have Dr. Maguire as the first surgon you will have a longer wait to get your date. If you go with Dr.Hadley or Dr.Anderson you will get a date sooner. You can't go wrong with any of them.
The only thing I have found different is their 'bed side manner'. Dr. Hadley always welcomes you with a big hug. Somehow I just can't see Dr.Maguire doing that. LOL

I am going to be having Maguire and/or Hadley(now Anderson) do my DS. At the info session, I was very impressed with the group. SUPER impressed with the way they do a 'triple' layer closure on the stomach and intestines....Using staples, over-stitching and then dermabond glue. Great leak protection, that most docs don't use!!!
Also, impressed with the way that you MUST stay in the Dayton area til your 2 week check. It's obvious they care about their patients and want the best care available to them.

Hi Tammy, I'm also having Dr. Maguire do my surgery. I'm having a DS but my surgery isn't scheduled until 7/11/05 (that distant date was my request due to problems with my own scheduling).
I was originally going to have the RNY and was scheduled with Dr. Curry in Cincinnati. I just loved him and his office staff, but needed to change to Dr. Maguire when I decided on having the DS instead. But, if you go with the RNY and are closer to Cincy, I couldn't recommend Dr. Curry any more strongly.
Your best bet is to get in for one of the New Life Surgery info sessions.
Best of luck with your journey.
