As per my previous messages I finally got approved for surgery and last week called the surgeon's office to see when they would schedule a date, they told me it could take up to 2 weeks to get scheduled. Today I called just to see and she now tells me because their counselor I saw in June'04 said that because I was stressed over my job at that time, 7 months ago, that I should get some counseling before surgery. The surgeon's office told me until they receive a letter from a counselor that I have been going and that it is OK to proceed with the surgery they will not even think about scheduling me for surgery. The only thing I am stressed about right now is everything I have put into having this surgery and there seems to always be some kind of road block. I have done everything required for this surgery including going to a psyciatric that said I am a great candidate, no problem. I go to support group meetings. I have read books & researched alot. Anyway, I have had all the required, stress test, counseling session, psyciatric evaluation, and the sleep study. I think at this point I want to find another surgeon. Has anyone used the Barix Clinic or do you have a good suggestion for a doctor that handles this surgery. The surgeon I am going to right now does not specialize in Bariatrics. Does Dr. Trace Curry just do surgery in Cincinnati? Everyone seems to love him. Please help!!! Thanks! Cindy

Hi Cindy! Have you thought about OSU? We are much closer than Cincinnati, and we have a great comprehensive program here too. *Please note, that I think that Dr. Curry is a wonderful doctor as well* Just from what I have read and talked to him here on the board. But, you should check into our program too. If you are interested I can get you some info, and point you in the right direction. We have info session that you can come to as well. I am sure that if you have laid all the ground work and can get it in, they would work with you as well. Here is the link to the website for OSU: http://medicalcenter.osu.edu/patientcare/hospitalsandservices/programs/weightmanagement/bariatric/index.cfm It sounds like you are getting the royal run around there, and I would be needing more than just counseling for my stress over that mess...can you say STRONG SEDATION??? While I am sure there are many successful surgeries at Barix, I don't feel comfortable in the fact that they have no back up for problems that could occur, where as at a major hospital you have respiratory, cardiac and other disciplines should the need arise. At Barix, if you have complications they have to ship you out. They only do open procedures there as well. Just something to think about. Whatever you decide you need to do, I wish you the best. Take care, Valerie

Thanks for reply. You made some good points. Yes I would like some information about OSU. I was kind of wondering about the fact that it was not a hospital that the surgery was being done and had some of the fears that you have brought up. Thanks again! Cindy
