Confused?/Concerned

Hi everyone! I know I am at the beginning of a long journey.. but I am getting confussed already! I know I have to jump through the hops for the insurance company (Beech Street/ APWU). But I feel as if I am finding out new hoops every day! I still do not know if they will accept my WW documentation.. so I was advised to start a physician supervised diet.. no big deal - but everyone (nurses, doctor, etc. ) is saying do the Aultman program.. ok - no problem.. except - it cost $100 for initial consult and $60 a week.. well for 6 months that is $1540. I already know that I will need $4000 upfront for the surgery when it is approved by insurance... Ok - I was coming to terms with the 4 grand.. but now I am feeling selfish about the whole thing. Hubby is still supportive, but I know he is worried about finances, I tell him - if I am in less pain I can work more hours (I have been taking time off without pay for feet and migrains and back pain). I guess I am feeling guilty about the financial side of things. As for other hoops, exactly what kind of blood work should I have my family doctor do? and what should he absolutley have done for my physical? Sorry to ramble, and thank you in advance for any help! ~Starr~

Starr, I would start by contacting the surgeons office and asking what they require. Tell them what insurance company you have and they should be able to tell you what the insurance requires. I had to have a psych evaluation, sleep study, mammogram, pap test, blood work, and colonoscopy. Some were required by the surgeon some by the insurance. My insurance denied benefits because I don't have a 5 year documented weight at my PCP. Pretty dumb if you ask me! If you are seeing any specialists ask them to write a letter for you to give to your surgeon. Most programs submit everything for you and will also appeal on your behalf. That is what we are doing right now! I wish you luck on your journey. If you go to your PCP for the 6 month documented weight lost attempt....make sure that is is well documented in your charts! What you are doing....what your height and weights are...how much you have lost or gained....etc. Once again, good luck! Sue
