I am single & have only one health/medical insurance, that being Medical Mutual of Ohio. My policy states that it will cover a one time Obesity related surgury with a cap of $10,000. Does anyone know off hand if there is such a thing as a gastric bypass surgery that costs somewhere in the vacinity of $10,000, or a specific hospital/bariatric center that would accept $10,000 for a bypass surgery? I live in Toledo, Ohio, and would be interested in any facilities that accept MM of Ohio, especially in the area of Toledo, Cleveland or Detroit, MI. Thanks! Jann

My hospital bill was $29,000 (just hospital, not for all of the other professionals like the dietician, Physical therapist etc.) My surgeon's bill was $3700 and the anestesiologist was $1500. My surgery was done in a record time for a LAP RNY only 1 1/2 hours so that cut down on OR fees. My insurance company PAID the hospital $10,800 for my hospital bill, $700 for the anestesiologist and $15,000 to the surgeon. You MIGHT be able to negotiate with the hospital at their negotiable rate, or there is a company called Care Credit (they are online) that could finance your surgery. Be warned, though, the payments to them are similar to buying a new car. At one point I had looked into having my surgery in Cincinnatti at Deaconess with Dr. Curry and they had said they would be able to work with me a bit. I know Dr. C. does LAp Band for around the $10,000 range. Hope this helps. Best wishes to you on your journey!

Jann, As I understand it this the cap your insurance company has fixed for WLS. Call customer service department and ask what Dr.s take this plan with the cap. One of the insurance company I had to chose from during open enrollment had a 10,000.00 cap, they said they had a number of doctors that worked with that cap. Try, they don't set the caps for nothing.

Since I had complications my surgery was $88,500, I will have to pay 10% of that. I would check The Surgical Weightloss Center in Dayton, if that is not to far for you to drive.

I don't know about wls but usually the price that that the hospital charges is not the price that insurance companies pay. Hospitals usually will inflate their rates because they know that they are only going to get a fraction of the price. I would find a good physician and show him/her your insurance and see what they say.
