Ok - I had been checking into wls and and am feeling confident that it is the right choice for me. I had spoke to my doctor last year who agreed but my insurance at the time did not cover wls. My insurance in changing on 2/1/04 and wls is now covered. My new insurance does not require referrals, so what would you suggest - do I make an appt with my doctor or do I call a surgeon for a consult - Where do I go now? Thank You!

I would still contact your primary care doctor. He/She will know where you should go and can lead you in the right place. Also it probably wouldnt hurt to have a referral. The more documentation you have the better off you will be. God Bless!!

Do you have an idea as to where you want to go to have your surgery? I think seeing your pcp is a great idea, get that referral for documentation absolutely. I know just about every place you check into has some type of information session to help you get started. We have on at OSU, if you were looking at coming here. I know it's a bit of a drive from Canton, but I am geographically and directionally challenged, so I have no idea what the distance would be. If you would like some info I can get it to you via snail mail. You can send me your address. I am sure every single one of us here would tell you start documenting everything, because even though your insurance says they don't need this or that, sure enough they will want proof of something at somepoint. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR JOURNEY!!! Welcome to the family. Keep coming back this is a great place for support. Valerie Curry RN OSU Lap RNY 07/10/2003 268/172/145 - 61" overall

Contact your pcp and see what they suggest. I was suggested a surgeon but decided to go with another. I have not regreted anything on my journey and I now have my date set for Jan. 18th. I wish you the best of luck on your weight loss journey. See you on the losing side soon.
