Here I am so close to going on vacation and I get a cold sore. Anyone know a fast cure for them? I feel like that woman on the tv commercial going on vacation with a cold sore!! Thanks in advance. Hugs, Susie

EWWWW Cold sores....ewwwwww Ok, no kissing from this end girlie! LOL Have you tried Abreva? Unfortunately time is about the only thing. You know these babies are stress induced right? I will check with my brother today and see what he uses. He is really prone to them too. I will email you with whatever I find out! I will ask my doctor buddies what they recommend. But, this is one of those wonderful virus' that just hang around like old luggage. In the meantime, quit kissing the toads! LOVE YA! Val

The best thing i have done is to freeze them. Keep putting ice cubes on the spot till you think you'll go nuts. It freezes the virus and dries up the cold sore. Be sure to do this several times. My doctor says all the stuff over the counter really won't get rid of them. You might call you doctor, if they are bad enough, so he can prescribe an oral antibiotic. Sandy

Call your doc! There are several things that can shorten the duration of cold sores but most are time dependant--the sooner you start them the better they will work! Several names are Denavir-topical, or acyclovir-liquid orally, or brands Valtrex or Famvir.

My mom always gave me L-Lysine(sp) You take like 3-4 tabs 4 times a day and they really start drying fast. If you start the first tingle you feel, sometimes they never realy form. Best wishes.....Jim
