I am getting a c-pap machine today. Anyone have any words of wisdom on how to get used to sleeping with it? Thanks for any input! Sue

Hi Sue, I got a mask that just covered my nose area and it seemed to help me ease into it. I would put it on 20 minutes before I was ready to lay down and by the time it was lights out, I had adjusted the mas****il it was comfortable for me to sleep with. I also got an extra length of hose so I didn't have to worry about turning over and knocking the machine off of the bedside table. Good Luck! Cathy

Cathy, Thanks! The respitory therapist will be here in about an hour. I am glad that you mentioned the extra length of hose! I do move a lot in my sleep and I am sure to hear a thunk! I will try reading before sleeping to get everything adjusted. Thanks again! Sue

If your machine has a ramp button, make sure you use it before you go to sleep. It really makes it easier to use. By the time the pressure builds up, you are asleep and don't even know it is going. Try to hang in there if it gets frustrating. It can take some time to get used to sleeping with it. Hugs, Jaimee

Jaimee, I used the ramp button last night and kept the c-pap on for 7 hours. I forgot to turn on the humidifier and now my nose is sore but won't forget it tonight! I guess it is mind over matter.....it matter's so I better do it! When I woke up this a.m. my chest hurt! I guess I am not used to breathing so much! haha. Thanks for the suggestion! I am sure I will use that little button every night! Sue

The biggest word of wisdom is ' TIME ' It really isn't as bad as you may be thinking. You will sleep so much better and feel so much better that it will be worth the little bit of aggravation that comes with it. I also use the extra length of hose and the bridge when I turn it on. I am sure that in a week or two at the most you will be fine. I also have a mask that just covers my nose. It is very soft and is very comfortable to wear. If you do not like the one they bring you have them get a different one. what one person likes another one may not. Good luck to you..... Anna L Archer aba47@adelphia

I used one and honestly have to tell I never got used to it. But I do highly suggest getting some sort of saline gel or something to put inside your nose at night before you use it. I can't tell you how many nights I woke up with a very sore sinuses. Can't stress it enough. Moisture, moisture, moisture. Take care

I also have the C-pap that is like a little triangle thing over my nose and straps that go over my head. I have a hard time NOT sleeping with mine on now. I do put a little Vicks vapor rub on my nose before I sleep. I have extra hose, because I am a flopper. I sleep on my back and stomach with mine on. It just takes a little time. I am hoping my apena will be gone soon. Good luck.
