What is Intubated?
The tube is placed in the throat - but goes into the trachea, not the esophagus (which goes to the stomach). It is connected to a machine that keeps you breathing while underanesthesia and delivers oxygen and other gasses. Sometimes people have to remain on the ventilator after surgery if they have had severe problems with sleep apnea.

I woke up with mine still in. I remembered it feels like you can't breathe well, but you are....so try not to be too scared. My O levels weren't where they wanted them, but come to find out it was because the tube was in too far...so they tried to pull it out a little...twice. I was awake and on it for maybe an hour or so, then they removed it before they took me to my room.
