Medicaid

I wanted to know if anyone in Ohio had the surgery and had it paid for by Medicaid? If so, what do I do first? Find the Dr who does the procedures, or call the Medicaid office and see if it would be covered? I have a letter from my primary care doctor. I also have asthma, high blood pressure, painful joints and have had 2 prior back surgerys and I have to have another one, but the back surgeon won't touch me till I loose the weight. I think that I have enough to ask for the surgery, but would like to talk with someone who has had it and had Medicaid cpver it.

I do not have Medicaid but I found a lot of information under the heading Insurers.......I have Medical Mutual so have read the posts on how they have or have not covered WLS....there are a lot of posts on Medicare. Look under "M" and go to page 6. This may give you an idea of how they approached them! Good luck in your journey. I am a stones throw away in Barberton. I have chosen to go to University Hospital for my WLS. They are ready to send my information to the insurance company pending my PCP sending them my 6 month supervised weight loss. Hopefully that will be tomorrow! Sue

Hi Anita, Just like Cheryl I too am going to have my surgery at OSU and I have Medicaid and Medicare. My PCP provided me with a referal to OSU. I called OSU and received a package. I returned the package and they handled the insurance portion of this journey ... I was approved. Georgeann
