HELP! Insurance Exclusion
Ok now I get to start back at square one. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience at overturning an insurance exclusion? I have sent and e-mail to the attorney in CA to see if they handle that. I know that there is a bill in the works in the senate. My insurance is BCBS of SC and they did like BCBS of GA did, I am wondering if all of BCBS is going to do that. Any help would help. I admire all of you and envy you at the same time for being able to start a new life. Even though I have not had the surgery I have come to look forward to coming to this site and checking on how everone is doing. I look daily for the updates on Jeremy. I sometimes get depressed cause there has been one thing after another since I decided to go this road but I knew that it would not be an easy one. I hope everyone has a Happy & Healthy New Year!!

OH
Sheila, this has been my experience. I was denied and ended up a self pay. I did not get covered because the policy my employer purchased did not cover WLS. It was not that my insurance carrier refused to pay. It was that the package my employer bought did not have WLS as part of the package. Therefore, it was completely excluded and no matter how many lawyers I lined up I would have lost. I researched things and found that in OHIO the courts tend to side with the insurance companies. So, be prepared for a long fight if you fight. Find out what your insurance policy really covers. Find out if WLS is classified as a benefit or not. Lastly, if you have to do self pay I as I did, I recommend a second mortgage on a house if you own. It is tax deductible and you can stretch it out over a long term so it is easier to pay. Also, many hospitals offer price breaks for self pay with cash, loans or credit cards.
Hope this helps,
Steve
