Out here in the midwest there seems to be a tradition of people eating pork and black-eyed peas for new years dinner. I think we will be having chili. Now I had never hear of having a special meal for New Years. Of course, the extent of our New Years revelry generally consisted of my dad throwing a couple of chains of ladyfingers and a few M-80's (that he purchased at the indian reservation and saved for just this purpose) in a metal bucket in our back yard and tossing a match in it. His thoughts were, "the noisier, the better". He would run outside, do this little ritual, laugh a bunch and then go to bed. I always feared the windows in our house were going to shatter from the force of theses explosions. New Years is special to Aaron and I because that is when he proposed to me, but we have never had a tradition concerning what to eat. Today I was reading an interesting article on New Years superstitions and traditions people practice. Personally, I am not superstitious. But it was fun to read about the weird things people do. Anyway, I am rambling. I was just curious if you all have a special menu you adhere to or if the Pork and Beans thing is just a central Ohio quirk. ~~

Jaimee, My grandmother always made us eat Sourcrout and Pork on New Years Day. She said it has something to do with having good luck all year long. Have a happy and safe New Year.

I know of a few who do the sourkraut thing too. The only way I like Kraut is on a Reuben sandwich and I am quite sure that is not a part of the post-op diet when I am moved to solids. Ha ha. I think the black-eyed peas are supposed to be a good luck thing too.

We grew up believing that you had to have sauerkraut or you would not have good luck or money for the next year. Cheryl
