When i went to the doctor he said my uric acid was a little high. I tried a protein diet before but when i went into ketoacidosis i was so sick i couldnt get off of the couch. Does anyone know if that is related to the high uric acid? Is it common to feel sick when going into ketoacidosis or did i maybe just have the flu. When i have the surgery i am scarred of how i will feel when this happens.

Tammy, I'm not a doctor, but I know that ketosis is the byproduct of burning fat. They say it's not a good thing for the long term, but many people live in ketosis without feeling any side effects. I usually will have a little headache and a little difficulty sleeping. Uric acid is a waste product in the body. It might be too high if you aren't hydrated enough, so drink lots of liquids to wa**** out. Uric acid will readily form cystals in a acid environment that can get "stuck" in joints especially the big toe causing gout ( you can have a high uric acid without getting gout ). It can cause a lot of pain in the affected joint, but I've personally haven't known anyone that was made sick by it. Again ..I'm not a doctor.
