Hello everyone this is my first time posting and I would like to get some opinions from some of Dr Curry's patients. I'm really new to my journey can anyone tell me what to expect during aftercare at the hospital for instance are there any nose tubes, cathethers, leak tests etc that I should expect I have a cousin that just recently had gastric bypass surgery with the different doctor at Good Samaritian Hospital in Cincinnati and the aftercare from what I saw was excellent for instance she had these little one oz cups to measure her liquids so she couldnt overdue it I have had an initial consultation with Dr C and I adore him but I just wanted to put that question out there so I can try to mentally prepare myself as much as possible. Thanks.

Felicia, Your aftercare depends on what operation: 1. lap band You will not have a bladder catheter or nose tube. You will be on a PCA pump where you can administer your own pain medication overnight. You will be started on clear liquids either the night of surgery or the next morning. The morning after surgery you can go home. 2. RNY bypass You will have a bladder catheter (just overnight) but no nose tube. Again you will have a PCA pump until the morning after surgery and then be converted to oral medications for pain. You will be started on clear liquids and start walking on post op day one. Post op day two you will likely go home. Hope this helps, Dr. C The Deaconess Surgical Weight Loss Center Cincinnati, Ohio (513) 559-2545

Felicia, please read the posts--just a few down under Deaconess. I have recommended Dr. Curry to a lot of people and thank God that I found him. I had started out with OSU and changed to him. I had a catheter, no nose tube (thank God) of course an Iv and he does do the leak test. I had lap RNY and it went very well. My husband and friends couldn't believe how well I got along. Dr. Curry is the best.... Debra

Felicia, I had my surgery on Nov 12, 2004. I researched Doctors for 6 months prior to choosing Dr Curry. I emailed him several times asking questions about the procedure. He took his time and emailed me back always. After my consult, I knew he was the one that I wanted. I am so happy that I chose him and Deaconess hospital. I have had no problems and I am so happy that I made this life change. I wish you all the luck, and If you ever need to talk feel free to email me. Jackie 325/282 -43lbs

Hi Felicia, I had lap RNY with Dr. Curry on 10/11/04. I am the biggest chicken when it comes to anything being done to me but I have to admit, it went so smooth, I was amazed. Catheter came out day after surgery and other than feeling a bit "sore"-like sore abdominal muscles, I was fine from the surgery. As I told Dr. C., the pain I had in my back (lower-which is something I've always had) was worse than the actual surgical pain. I began walking the day after surgery and its been all good from that point on. On my one month check up I had lost 49 lbs. When I think of all the years I had tried just to lose 5 lbs. without sucess I just sit and shake my head! Without this surgery and the care of Dr. C. and staff........ Beth
