I have decided, after much research and soul searching, that WLS is the answer for me. I have a consultation with BTC on December 8, and will know more then. My health insurance is UHC (choice plus) through NS Railroad. Hubby called and they said it was covered, with referral from doctor, but you know how that goes. I'm hoping to not run into any insurance snags, but I'm sure not counting on that. Anyone with any info. on UHC or with Railroad insurance, I'd love to hear it. Also, I am trying to prepare my diet history, and really struggling. Does anyone have one they might be willing to let me look at, so that I can accurately fill mine out? Thanks for reading, and I can't tell you all how great it is to have this place to come to for firsthand information. I've been "lurking" for a week or so, and I think I'm becoming addicted!! Susan

Susan, I have UHC Select Plus POS through SBC and they approved my surgery within a couple days of submission. I did not have to have the 6 months doctor supervised and documented diet; however, I did have to show a history of past diet attempts. One thing I would caution, though, is I would make absolutely sure that the procedure is covered in 2005. I know that some companies have dropped the waiver for next year and UHC doesn't automatically cover it. You should receive a packet of information from your surgeon at your consult that will guide you through gathering all the information you'll need prior to submitting the paperwork to insurance. In the meantime, take a few minutes to write down all the different diets and programs you have tried over at least the last 5 years. (I went back 10 just in case). Write down everything....including over-the-counter miracle cures (ha ha), etc. Then try to put dates with them or an estimated time frame. You'll be amazed at how quickly you remember everything you've tried and when. Good luck to you and congratulations on taking this giant leap! Lani

Welcome Susan, How brave you are to have come to a decision and taken action. I remember how hard that first step was. My husband also works for the Railroad. Sorry for both of us,. and I have UHC. They were wonderful through the whole experience. I know, I could not believe it either. I had my surgery at the Barix Center in Yipsilanti, MI. I got my approval from the insurance company before I could even get all of the tests scheduled. For my diet history, I just sat down with my sister and husband and went year by year. It was not a happy time remembering all of my failures. But I am a success now. With the tool the surgery gave me in April, I have lost 117 pounds. Only about 50 more to go. What a great life I have been given. If I can help in any other way don't hesitate to ask. Good luck, Deb
