Constipation!! please help
I just had my surgery on Nov 16th and I am feeling great. Just over the past 3 or 4 days I have not lost any weight, in fact I have gained 1 1/2.
I am finding it hard to go to the bath. I am not in any major pain, although I do have a slight pain on my left side. The pain only feels like muscle and I only hurts when I think about it. I dont feel that it is a problem. I am following the rules and only drinking liquids so I dont think there is a blockage. Someone please help me I am very very concerned. I have my follow up on Dec 1 and an apt with my PCP Friday.
could very well be that you have nothing going in so nothing to come out....most ppls bowel habits are not exactly normal right away....
if you are truly worried ; call your doc --i am able to take walmart's equate brand gas pills when i feel gassy- maybe you have a buildup of gas--things do not escape as well (or when) we would like either.
as for the weight gain--get the heck off the scale!!!! it is not your friend!!!!!
just my thoughts.
I am almost 5 months out and this is my biggest problem too. Dulcolax suppositories are the best. They work in about an hour . I have the same problem and if I dont go for three or four days I use them.If that doesnt work for some reason go get a fleet enema and that is always a sure thing. Good luck, I feel for you.Cindy
Hi Marlo !
I had the same problem. It is miserable isn't it? I have one question, are you passing gas? If you are passing gas, then your bowels are functioning. And the anti gas meds is a great thing to invest in. Anything with simethicone will help. As always, keep up the fluid intake.
You know a pediatritian told me one time 2 cups in 1 cup out!! I always thought this was funny, so keep that in mind. What are you putting in? Liquids primarily, right? Well most of those are going to be absorbed through the intestine and processed out through the kidneys. So basically you aren't putting enough in to make stool right now, I went over a week before I had what I could even call anything close to a bm. Not trying to sound gross, but just a whole lot of what we in the med profession called "smear". My daughter calls them "ghost poopies" you feel like you did, but when you look there's nothing there!!
If your are not getting enough fluids in you will start retaining a little, our bodies have a wonderful self preservation system! So, more fluids in more fluids out.
Bottom line, this is normal. However, severe pain is not, if you stop passing gas, become severly nauseated or anything that doesn't feel right call you MD RIGHT AWAY!!! That's what they are there for, believe me they would rather get the call early then have you get yourself into a crisis situation!!
Take care, have a great Holiday and I hope you get to feeling better soon!
