New to Group
Hello all! My name is Tonya and I have to say I'm so glad I have found this group. I have been researching different surgeries and such (leaning toward the BPD/DS right now, and have found the information from this site so informative. I live in Athens, Oh and work at Ohio University.
I haven't put my in depth profile up yet, but intend to do so. I just wanted to say hello and become part of the group!!!!
I am 38 yrs old and have been overweight since I was 19. Ex husband (soldier) was a real gem. The more he told me I was ugly and fat and disgusting, the more I ate. I have lightened the load though, as I divorced him in 1995. Why its taken me this long to take control of my life......I don't know.
But, anyway......I am looking forward to getting into the groove here and being an active participant.
Hugs all around!
Tonya
Hi Tonya!
Welcome!!! Yeah, I know what ya mean, I lightened two of those loads in this life time. SO, I guess I could say I lost a lot of dead weight before surgery too!
If it makes you feel anybetter it took me about the same amount of time to get a handle on mine too!!! I guess we are slow learners, bu****ch out once you do...WOOOO HOOOOO!!! The sky's the limit!!
This is a great place, keep coming back. If you have questions, ask! Someone somewhere can usually help you out!
Good luck!

Hello Tonya,
I am new here also and very much in the same shoes you are. I am 36 years old and physically divorced from my ex husband since 1994. I say physically because it has taken me 10 years to let go of the way he tortured me mentally about my weight. No matter how small I was he would find something wrong with the way I looked. While others said things like "you are too thin" "you should be a model", he said things like your boobs are too small and your thighs are too big.. Well enough already!! This is for me!! Anyway... Hugs and welcome to the board. Heres to a brighter future for all of us here on the AMOS board!!

Tonya,
Congratulations on deciding on the surgery and also on coming to this site! We have two great doctors (that I am aware of) who monitor this site and respond to questions and concerns. They are Dr. Curry and Dr. Selwin. Also there is Valerie Curry, a nurse at OSU and a very successful post op, whom is loaded with information. Not to mention all of the other post-ops and pre-ops. This site has been a wealth of information to me. I am just getting started in the process myself and I am on here several times a day, reading posts and profiles.
Do you know what surgeon you will be using? I wish you all the best on your journey...just be prepared to appease the "insurance gods"...some of them are a real bear to deal with.
Welcome to the board!
Good luck..
Hi!!! Welcome to the group... I am also new! This is only my 2nd post. I think we have a real trend here, as I, too, have lost 2 dead weights in my 44 yrs. Both never understood my issues with weight and were pretty non-supportive, bordering on abusive. Luckily husband #3 tries to be supportive. I have had a weight problem since I was 10 yrs. old. Started the vicious weight loss cycle at my first Weigh****chers meeting while I was in 6th grade. It's been a never-ending battle since then. Even been through eating disorders and such. Luckily, my life is a whole lot more calm now and I am hoping to have RNY surgery once I get approved through the insurance process. My biggest concern right now is that I just found out that the place where I started the process isn't even contracted with my insurance company!!!! You would have thought that someone would have told me way before now!!!! I don't want to have to wait any longer by switching facilities, but, I just may have to. It is so hard waiting on having surgery once you finally make up your mind that it is the right thing to do!!! I wish you well!!! Karen
