Deja vu (pre-op testing again)
I am litterally starting my WLS journey all over again...and I had surgery 20 months ago!!!
I saw a new surgeon today for a consult for a hernia repair and since she did not do my WLS she has ordered all the tests and evaluations she would as if I were a new patient (pre-op). I have to see a sleep doctor, (I was just retested in June and no longer have to use my CPAP), a psych eval, 2 nutrition classes, 2 support group meetings, heart tests, chest x-ray, upper GI. I have a whole "to do list" it seems overwhelming and like it is more than I had to do before my WLS, but it is not, I just had a lot of my previous pre-op tests done on my own before actually starting the process.
I'm not complaining, I know these tests are for my own good, and that I really do need to reevaluate my eating and exercise routine. I have to lose 65lbs before surgery. The only thing I question is if I can just send my recent sleep study to the doctor and have him o.k. things or if I really have to make an appointment, take off work and pay $20 co-pay. She also wants me to stop taking Depo Provera...which I wouldn't have a problem with, except I am on coumadin and am scared about how heavy my periods will be being on a blood thinner.
I also am concerned with how much of this testing my insurance will cover. They have a WLS or any treat for obesity exclusion, which wouldn't normally be a problem since I already had WLS. I'm going to try and get as much of the testing in this year since I am close to reaching my out-of-pocket.
I'm glad I started this process now, since I want to have my hernia repaired with a TT in May, that gives me some time to lose the weight. The good thing is this surgeon will do the TT with the hernia repair, no need for another surgeon at the this time. However, that is all she will do, for all my other PS needs I will have to find someone else, when that time comes.
